How to Edit PPTX Maps

One of the biggest advantages of downloading maps from EditMapStudio is that you do not need any external design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to use them. Our .pptx files are engineered specifically to be 100% editable directly inside Microsoft PowerPoint.

1. Selecting Individual Regions

When you open the downloaded map in PowerPoint, you will notice that the map is not a single, flat image (like a PNG or JPG). Instead, it is composed of dozens or hundreds of individual Freeform Shapes.

• Simply click precisely on the state, province, or country you wish to highlight.
• You will see a bounding box appear around that specific region, indicating it is selected.
• If you accidentally select the background or multiple shapes, simply click outside the map to deselect, and try clicking the specific region again.

2. Changing Colors & Borders

Highlighting a specific region for a sales territory or demographic presentation is the most common use case. Once you have a region selected:

• Navigate to the Shape Format tab at the very top of your PowerPoint ribbon.
• Click on Shape Fill and choose any color from your company's branded color palette to fill the region.
• Click on Shape Outline to change the border color, or adjust the "Weight" to make the border thicker and more prominent.

3. Resizing and Extracting Geographies

Because our maps are pure vector graphics, they suffer zero quality loss when scaled.

If you need to focus your slide on just one specific state or region, you can click and drag that state away from the rest of the map. Once extracted, you can drag the corner sizing handles to make that state 10 times larger. It will remain perfectly crisp and pixel-perfect on your slide.

Pro Tip: Ungrouping Elements

To keep the maps organized, we group text labels (like country or capital names) together with the shapes. If you want to delete a text label without deleting the shape underneath it, or move it independently, you need to Ungroup the map.

• Right-click anywhere on the map.
• Hover over the Group option in the menu.
• Select Ungroup (or press Ctrl+Shift+G on Windows / Cmd+Option+G on Mac).
• You can now manipulate text labels and geographic shapes entirely independent of each other.
